Testing Group Overview The Petroleum HPV Testing Group has sponsored 389 substances produced and used by the nation’s petroleum industry to meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) High Production Volume Chemical (HPV) challenge. Under the voluntary program, the petroleum industry will publicly provide basic hazard information on chemicals manufactured in, or imported to, the U.S. by our industry in volumes of more than one-million pounds per year. The petroleum industry has long been committed to improving public access to information on petroleum products and chemicals so that consumers know how to use them carefully and safely. Such information and research has been conducted over the past decade as part of the industry’s product stewardship and environmental goals. The American Petroleum Institute (API) serves as administrator of the Petroleum HPV Testing Group, a consortium made up of approximately 60 member companies from API, the National Petrochemical & Refiners Association (NPRA), the Gas Producers Association (GPA) and the Asphalt Institute. The most-recent documents submitted to EPA can be found
on this site. These include Category Assessment Documents (CAD) for completed
categories and Test Plans and Robust Summaries for categories still in-progress.
The HPV Challenge was the first time that this information has been collected,
organized, assessed and analyzed in such a large-scale, collaborative
effort. Members of the Petroleum HPV Testing Group Alcoa Inc.
