Testing Group Overview

Under the United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) High Production Volume (HPV) Challenge program, companies that manufacture petroleum products were challenged to make human health and ecological hazard data on HPV petroleum substances available to the public. To respond to this challenge, the Petroleum HPV Testing Group was formed with the goal of establishing and funding a data disclosure and testing program to provide basic hazard information on substances manufactured in, or imported into, the USA by the petroleum industry in volumes of more than one-million pounds per year. The Testing Group was comprised of petroleum substance manufacturers and importers affiliated by contractual obligation to the American Petroleum Institute (API).

Overall, the Petroleum HPV Testing Group worked to successfully respond to the challenge by sponsoring approximately 400 petroleum-related substances in the Program.  The Testing Group consortium was organized through the efforts of API, the American Fuels and Petrochemical Manufacturers, the Asphalt Institute, and the Gas Producers Association. The companies that have participated in the Petroleum HPV Testing Group are listed below.  (API is not responsible for the below URLs, which are subject to change.)
